The importance of keeping Bees.
It is now well known that the honey bee is under threat worldwide. Despite the Scientist lack of answers to "Colony Collapse Disorder" (CCD), we can help or even save the day for our Bees. Using age old techniques Beekeepers divide colonies throughout the summer months at the expense of the honey harvest, so artificially increasing the number of colonies going into winter ( as Sean describes ). So hopefully replacing a percentage that succumbs to whatever. Without the beekeeper's intervention we may well lose them altogether. So we need more Beekeepers. If any of you are put off by the complexity of the many books published on the subject, dont be. You only need to know what to do next week. Please think about keeping a few colonies yourself. It is quite captivating.
