Polytunnel advice

While we have a red weather warning in place we have been advised by our polytunnel installer to keep all doors securely shut and have nothing loose inside that's sharp that could puncture it. Hope that is advice that is of help for tomorrow.

On the face of it this sounds like good advice but, I asked this question of a local fruit farmer who just had covers on the hoops. No ends at all. He said that he has had these tunnels many years with no problems. Wind in, wind out. No problem

No wonder I never know what to do. Just when you think you get it right.

Dont think that Deryn. I think if you have ends, Doors etc. Keep them tight closed if you have them or wide open. Wind in, Wind out or no wind at all if you catch me drift. The problem comes when you have just one open. Wind no where to go so poly blows up

We have certainly had wind today. Hope there was no serious damage done. Our polytunnels are still intact so doors shut worked for us today. As you say Wayland, wind out.

We have lost the polythene of one door which blew out. The remaining three doors had just fruit cage mesh on them, which I thought would be enough to keep the air pressure down but obviously not. Still it was quite a blow.

Both doors opened here and wind was blowing through then changed direction and hit the side, it has slightly bent 4 of the crop bars across the hoops and has moved 6 of the hoops to a very slight angle forward. Never had that happen before and yes Wayland it was some wind. It's still standing though and plastic still on, so all good.
