I made an exchange with a local Bee keeper some of me cider for a bottle of his mead. Although it was really far to young to drink and do it justice I had to try it. Well, very strong and not bad at all. I had made it in the past out of cappings as was the tradition, but was not happy with the taste, rather woody I thought. This sample how ever had a bee`s waxy twang but not at all unpleasant. Any of you lads make Mead?

I used to make a fair drop of it years ago, and the sparkling variety was better than any champagne. I haven't made it for years now, principally beacause I have so much cider and also, the price of honey is so high it would cost me too much. I know you can make mead (of sorts) from cappings, washing water etc, but, for the real thing, you need to use a minimum of three pounds of good honey to the gallon.
