Could I make an appeal to anyone who accesses this forum to try to engage in it? If you are interested in self-sufficiency or gardening or poultry-keeping, or dogs, or trees or anything to do with country living, please engage or this forum is likely to fold. If you have any questions about country life, please ask them! Remember - nobody started off as an expert, every expert had to learn! No question is silly -except the one you don't ask!

Despite best efforts, it looks like this forum has met its Waterloo. It seems that there are just not enough people in Ireland interested in self-sufficiency. I know that, in my townland, I am the only one who keeps poultry, grows vegetables, etc. Sad to say, but when the oil is shut off there are going to be a lot of people who won't know how to feed their families. Adieu.
