How about Alpaca`s.

Post by wayland on Thu Mar 15, 2018 9:39 am

For me these endearing animals are just pets. Yet they are portrayed as a business. There may well be some income from the clip but with the price of stock I would not think that the animal would live long enough to pay for itself. So the only potential profit from keeping Alpaca`s is the sale of offspring. Sounds a bit like pyramid selling to me. Gloria has a love affair with them but I dont think that they have a place in agricultural shows. Comments anyone?

Love the hair for spinning but have only ever known people who keep them as lawn mowing pets. Not sure they would make you much money but then what does. We are lucky if what we have manages to pay for itself never mind much of a profit. One day we may strike it rich but we are happy and that's what matters

The price you get from wool seems to depend a lot on the colour. However, those alpacas of course are very expensive stock.
Don't get tempted to acquire a llama. They are cantankerous buggers - pardon the French - and they all seem to equally and perpetually grumpy
