I have loads of small onions from last year, would I be able to plant them again for this year or would I be better buying fresh sets?
Has anyone tried this before?

My advice would be: pickle 'em, and buy fresh sets for this year. If you plant 'em, they're likely to bolt, and home-pickled onions are delicious.

Onion sets are heat treated to kill the flower bud inside the bulb. As Sean said. Delicious pickled or used in Piccalilli pickle.

Think we will be eating pickled onions until this time next year. Definitely got carried away with the onions last year. Better than running out though.
