Fox problem
Hey everyone! We have had a fox problem since December. I have a live trap set up the past could of weeks but he isn't falling for it. I found where he comes in and have the trap set up there. Bait i'm using is chicken.
Any suggestions, ideas or alternatives methods?
regards
JJ

Re: Fox problem
My husband does pest control and this is the advice
Remove the trap and feed the fox in the area so he gets used to finding food there.
Then after e few days place the trap back but closed and continue to feed it outside the trap.
A few days later open the trap and place the bait inside. That should catch you you're fox.
Hope that's of help, just needs a bit of patience.

Re: Fox problem
Desperate problems require desperate measures. I gave up trying to out wit old Reynard. We now have a fence of chain link, five feet above ground and a foot below. This is complemented by two strands of electric fence above. Looks like Colditz but not had a problem since. What will you do with the fox once you catch it?

Re: Fox problem
We use electric poultry netting but the only downside is they can't roam to far. Its expensive but cheaper then keep replacing stock.
How much did you loose JJ?

Re: Fox problem
There is a place about 17 miles away and up the mountains, far away from and livestock or people. I intend on releasing him there.
We have lost about 10 chickens, 8 ducks and 1 goose. Its under control as far as he can't get to the livestock anymore, so either he will move on himself for lack of food or hopefully we will catch him.

Re: Fox problem
With those sort of losses I would be a tad less generous than you JJ. I have had many opportunities of shooting the fox while out hunting and chose not to do so but, in protection of my stock! that is another matter. Good luck mate.

Re: Fox problem
Ah well at the end if the day he is just doing what foxes do and as much as it is a pain in the arse i dont believe in killing something unless I'm going to eat it....with the exception of mice and rats! Lol I'll be hatching more this year so i will be able to rebuild what i lost.
