for those for you who have and are raising pigs. I'm wondering what breeds have you tried and what do you feel is the best flavor breeds?

Some of the names that keep coming up online include Berkshire, Gloucestershire Old Spots, Tamworth.

For your money, if you could only every eat one breed again what would it be and why?

I think any of the heritage breeds that are fat and slow maturing would produce excellent tasting crackling Wink .  I have kept GOS, Saddle Back, and Large Black. The latter being the best for the beginner in my opinion. My next pigs will be either GOS or Tamworth.

When you say slow maturing what kind of timeline would be a good average? I will look into the large black and saddle backs. Id love tamworth myself but from my research you can get better tasting beasts

My favourites are the Tamworths. We've had the white pigs as well for a change last year, but I found the meat to be blander. We feed them kitchen scraps, rolled barley and spuds and carrots we buy by the loading bed load (fiver for a loading bed, which is great value). Occasionally, we top up with lamlac or pig nuts

So many choices! Does anyone know if I'd be able to get 2 or 3 piglets of different breeds?
for example Berkshire, Gloucestershire Old Spots and Tamworth

Is it possible to raise different breeds together? I haven't seen it really done before.

Regards

JJ
