There is trouble afoot. In the dead of night a blood curdling screaming sound has been heard coming from the wood!. My thought was a damn Vixen on the prowl but! I overheard a group of elderly ladies discussing with conviction that a "Banshee" has been seen locally Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Wayland, the banshee - or to give her her Irish name - bean sidhe ( which means "fairy woman") is a curious character in Irish folklore. If you can find a book entitled "Jimmy and the Banshee" by Dan Kissane, it will give you an insight. When seen, she's usually near water and has a habit of combing her long hair. Her cry, usually uttered upon the death of a member of a long-established family is blood-curdling - just like the cry of a vixen. I remember, years ago, a den of fox-cubs were dug out and killed in the mountains above my house; the cries from the vixen the next night were blood-curdling in the extreme.
